Cradle of Humankind Experience

Welcome home to the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site. The area is renowned for the discoveries of species that walked the earth many years ago, The Maropeng Visitor Centre showcases the discoveries that have been made of various species. The beauty and rock formations make Wonder Caves spectacular to visit after walking down 80 stairs and travelling down 20m with an elevator. An early morning Hot Air Balloon ride overlooking the Magalies Mountain range and game reserves allowing you to spot various animals from the air sets the tone to the day in the Cradle, Feel the engine of the quad bike or zipline through the air to get your adrenaline pumping or relax at a spa and enjoy the delicious meals and drinks at our renowned local restaurants and breweries.

The Cradle of Humankind is a world heritage site situated only 1 hour from Johannesburg and Pretoria. The area is renowned for its fossil discoveries that have been made over many years. Many significant fossil finds have been made in the Cradle of Humankind, including the famous fossils “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot” and recently “Homo Naledi”. The area comprises of many paleontological sites, meaning more fossil discoveries still to be made. The Sterkfontein Caves and Maropeng Visitor centre are a must visit when in Johannesburg.

The area is also made special and by various tourism products located around the area. There are many activities to enjoy such as hot air balloon, quad bikes, fly fishing, zipline, water park, game drives, cycling, spa treatments, unique restaurants and craft breweries.
